Lighting the Way: How Ad Art Electronics Delivered for GracePoint Church
In the heart of Lodi, California, GracePoint Church had a vision: to better connect with their community through a modern, double-faced monument sign featuring integrated LED screens. To turn this vision into reality, they turned to Ad Art Electronics.

THE CHALLENGE:
The project presented a perfect storm of constraints. The budget was tight, the deadline was strict, and the physical site presented significant limitations.
- Existing Infrastructure: An old sign stood in the way, requiring removal and a complete redesign of the footing and structure.
- Distance & Connectivity: The sign’s location was too far from the main building for standard data wiring or easy power runs.
- Environmental Factors: The sign faced due south, directly into the intense Lodi sun, threatening to wash out the LED displays.
THE SOLUTION:
Ad Art Electronics tackled these challenges through a combination of engineering ingenuity and sheer hard work.
- Precision Coordination and Design: Replacing an existing structure is rarely straightforward. Ad Art’s design staff acted as the central hub, coordinating seamlessly with structural engineers, the local permitting department, and the church's facilities staff. They navigated the bureaucratic and physical complexities to produce a design that was safe, compliant, and aesthetically pleasing—all while racing against the clock.
- Wireless Innovation: The distance between the sign and the church building made trenching for hard-wired data communication impossible. Ad Art engineered a robust wireless solution:
- NEMA Enclosure: Control equipment was housed locally at the sign in a weather-resistant NEMA box.
- WiFi Bridge: High-powered WiFi antennas were installed at both the sign and the church building, creating a reliable bridge to the customer’s network router and Internet connection.
- Beating the Sun: A south-facing screen in California usually means one thing: poor visibility due to glare. To ensure the church’s message remained vibrant, Ad Art utilized a high-contrast LED solution. Specially designed, coated masks (louvers) were used over the LED pixels to block direct sunlight and increase contrast, ensuring deep blacks and bright colors even at high noon.
- Empowering the Customer: GracePoint needed flexibility. Ad Art provided a web-based Content Management System (CMS), allowing church staff to update messages, graphics, and schedules from anywhere—whether they are in the church office or working remotely.
